Consider that the skin of the face is just like your bed at home. The top layer of the skin is like the doona, the middle layer the mattress and the lower layer is like the bed base. As we get older, any of these layers, and sometimes, all three, suffer from the aging process. The result is a dragging down of the face, lines and a heaviness along the jaw-line.

As we age, the ‘bed-linen’ layer becomes more bulky and the skin loses its elasticity just like the bedsprings in an aging mattress. Well the bed-springs in our analogy, is the equivalent to the collagen in our skin. In fact there is a great deal of similarity between bedsprings and collagen because collagen is a spring-like molecule that gradually unwinds as we age so that the skin loses its natural elasticity.

The Fraxel laser energy recoils those bedsprings, returning the existing collagen to natural resilience and elasticity.
